Biography

Linshanshan(Lin) joined the lab as a junior at UC Berkeley through the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program(URAP). She is interested in developing computational methods for solving clinical relevant biological problems. Her current project in the lab revolves around lower back pain and its relationship to the intervertebral disc degeneration and Cartilage Endplate (CEP) permeability. The goal is to establish a non-invasive selection criterion to identify discs that can support the higher nutrient demands required by the intradiscal therapy. To do this, she is combining newly developed MRI techniques with advanced quantitative analysis to assess how CEP permeability relates to the extent of disc degeneration. She plans to attend graduate school after earning her bachelor’s degree.
